Cape Hatteras is the perfect location to unlock the mysteries of night photography. Hatteras Island sits 30+ miles from mainland North Carolina, and it is cradled by over 60 miles of National Park. Much of the access to the park is away from commercial and residential development, which means there is little to no light pollution.
This workshop is designed to teach students the skills and techniques to photograph the night sky. Do you want to learn how to capture pinpoint stars, paint with light, and photograph star trails? Have you ever wondered how best to photograph the Milky Way? If so, then this is the workshop for you!
The workshop will begin at my home studio in Buxton, located just 2 miles from the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. We will study night photography techniques that we will use when we are out in the field. Then, we’ll spend a couple of hours in various locations (of course, one of those will include the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse) shooting “light in the dark.”
Weather and atmospheric conditions vary throughout the year, making some days “better” for night photography than others. However, whatever the conditions, students will leave the workshop with a confident grasp of the techniques and principles of night photography.
